SoCreate Feature Highlight: How to Add Dialogue from the Tools Toolbar in SoCreate Screenwriting Software
In traditional screenwriting software, adding dialogue involves typing the character’s name and then typing what they say. It’s all black and white, and the dialogue has no data.
But in SoCreate, dialogue is alive! Every line of dialogue is paired with your character’s image, helping you to better visualize the character as they interact with other characters in each scene. If you change the character’s name or image, it updates everywhere that character speaks. And characters can actually express emotions on their face when you add Dialogue Direction.
Why is SoCreate’s Dialogue Better?
SoCreate dialogue is something you can see; it’s not just words on a page, but a character image paired with your lines. This makes it easier to scan your scenes for who’s talking, and helps readers better visualize your screenplay as they read.
SoCreate screenplays also have an understanding of the data behind your dialogue, including who’s speaking, what they look like, and where they appear in your script. In the future, this will have a big impact on how you manage your script.
To add Dialogue from the Tools Toolbar:
There are many ways to add dialogue in SoCreate, including from the Story Toolbar, Quick Add Tool if using keyboard shortcuts, and the Tools Toolbar. Today, we’re going to cover the latter.
If you want to create a new character and give them something to say, use the Tools Toolbar to the right-hand side of your screen. Click the blue “+Character” button to create a new character. Add a name, change the automatically selected image if you’d like, choose the character type, and add an age. Then, click the green check mark. SoCreate inserts a new dialogue item in your Story Stream where you can start typing lines.
