Founder Story: What Drives SoCreate’s CEO Justin Couto?
"I don't like to think about problems in the way of, you know, this is terrible. Well, if it's terrible, how would I resolve it? How would I change it? What would I do to make it different or better?” – SoCreate Founder & CEO Justin Couto
And that’s how it all began …
SoCreate is Justin’s solution to his early experiences of trying to write a screenplay. He was frustrated, software was clunky, and there was just so much to learn before he could ever type FADE IN. So, he came up with a better way, a tool that helped writers learn the technicalities of screenwriting more quickly, so they could get back to doing what they do best – telling stories!
In this interview by Screenwriter Paul Backstrom, Justin delves deep into his motivations, the SoCreate team mission, SoCreate’s biggest challenges, and where we’ll be 5 years from now. You’ll want to hear this!
Week 10: Let’s Write a Screenplay in 2024!
It’s week 10 of “Let’s Write a Screenplay in 2024” and if you’ve been keeping up, you’re probably about halfway through the first draft of your script. I hope you feel so awesome about this; what an accomplishment, and we’re not even through the first quarter of the year!
As a reminder, we’ll be in writing mode through the end of April.
But as promised, you can check this Museletter each week for a dose of tough love or inspiration to keep you in the writing zone.
This week’s inspiration comes from the visionary Walt Disney.
“Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right.”
- Walt Disney
You hear it all the time, but persistence is the key to success. Really think about that; what does it mean to be persistent? To me, it means that no failure, frustration, or lack of know-how is going to keep me from getting up and trying again every day until I get it right. I know, deep down, that’s the only path to achieving anything worth pursuing.
So, will you get back up today and go after your goals, no mater what happened yesterday or last week?

This week, let’s tackle a suspense-filled scene.
Location: Inside (INT) – A Modern Day Speakeasy Bar
Characters: Jason (50s), Casey (30s), Kevin (40s)
Set the Scene: A bustling, dimly lit speakeasy where the Louisiana elite drink martinis. A live band plays jazz. Jason appears confident and in his element, while Casey and Kevin (a couple), sit nervously close to one another and gingerly sip their drinks.
Prompt: Jason is introducing these supposed newcomers to the scene in Louisiana, but the truth is, he knows exactly who they are. Write a scene where we learn Jason’s true intentions for bringing the pair to this space. What information does he want from them? What happens when Kevin starts feeling a bit dizzy, and realizes his drink has been drugged?
*You can use SoCreate without an account, but you will not be able to save your work.
That's it for this week's Museletter! We hope it inspired you to write. Your stories are important, and every sentence you add brings you one step closer to a finished story you can share with the world!
