Week 13: Let’s Write a Screenplay in 2024!
Welcome to week 13 of "Let's Write a Screenplay in 2024!" We’ve got just 5 weeks left to go until your first draft due date. Then, we’ll get into rewrites!
In the meantime, we’re here to provide a mix of motivation and tough love to keep you focused and inspired.
This week's inspiration is from author Rosette Mugidde Wamambe.
“When you do not have your clear definition of what success looks like, you tend to feel unsuccessful every time other people talk about their success.” ― Rosette Mugidde Wamambe
This week, write down what success looks like to you. Perhaps it's finishing a screenplay, or maybe it’s seeing one produced. Break down each actionable step that it’s going to take to reach that goal, including all the mini-goals you’ll accomplish on your road to success.
Writing these things down makes them real, and allows you to celebrate all of your wins along the way. Otherwise, it’s easy to get stuck in the comparison trap and forget how much you’ve already accomplished.
Success is a very personal thing, so get clear on what your version of success looks like.
It could provide the boost of motivation you need this week to keep writing!

This week, let’s tackle the passage of time.
Location: Inside (INT) – Sari’s Living Room – 15 years later
Characters: Sari (40s), Budger (a Parakeet)
Set the Scene: A dusty and dark living room, as evidenced by the particles that seem to be sparkling in the air where the sun manages to streak through a slightly open drape. The entire furniture collection is a time capsule from the 90s, the last time Sari ever went outside.
Prompt: Sari has been residing in this home for the past 15 years with her pet Parakeet Budger, and hasn’t stepped foot outside. But today, something comes on the TV that prompts her to open her front door for the first time. Write a scene about what she sees, and hint at what’s been keeping her indoors all these years. Consider using a Flashback transition to tell the audience more about what has kept her here, or write two scenes, including one that explains why Sari has been housebound, and a second that occurs 15 years later when she finally emerges.
*You can use SoCreate without an account, but you will not be able to save your work.
That's it for this week's Museletter! We hope it inspired you to write. Your stories are important, and every sentence you add brings you one step closer to a finished story you can share with the world!
