Week 20: Let’s Write a Screenplay in 2024!
It’s week 20 in our journey to write a screenplay in 2024, and we’re moving on to the next crucial steps after rewriting your script. This week, we’ll focus on catching those pesky typos and getting valuable feedback on your story.
Step 1: Proofread for Typos
After the intense rewriting phase, it's time to go through your screenplay with a fine-tooth comb to catch any typos or grammatical errors. These small mistakes can distract readers and detract from your hard work. Take your time and consider reading your script aloud or using tools like Grammarly to catch any errors you might have missed.
Step 2: Gather Feedback
Feedback is essential to refining your screenplay further. Here’s who you should consider getting feedback from:
Friends and Family: They can provide general impressions and highlight areas where the story might be confusing or not engaging enough.
Script Consultants: Professionals can offer in-depth analysis and expert advice on structure, character development, and more.
Writing Group Colleagues: Fellow writers can provide constructive criticism and share their insights from a writer’s perspective.
Using SoCreate Feedback
SoCreate Feedback makes it easy to share your script and collect comments. Here’s how:
Send Out a Link: Share your completed story by sending a link to your friends, family, script consultants, or writing group colleagues.
Easy Access: Recipients can comment on any part of your screenplay without needing a SoCreate account, and you can reply back!
Centralized Feedback: All feedback is collected in one place, making it easy for you to review and reply to comments directly. This streamlined process helps you keep all feedback organized and actionable.

Step 3: Applying Feedback
Not all feedback will be equally useful, so here’s how to decide which notes to incorporate:
Evaluate the Source: Consider who is giving the feedback and their level of expertise.
Look for Patterns: If multiple people point out the same issue, it’s likely something that needs attention.
See the Note Through the Note: Understand the underlying concern behind each note. For example, if someone says a scene is boring, they might mean that it lacks tension or stakes.
Read more about handling screenplay notes here.
By carefully proofreading and gathering thoughtful feedback, you'll refine your screenplay into a polished and compelling story.
Keep pushing, keep improving, and remember: the best stories often emerge from collaboration and revision.

This week, help your characters complete a high-stakes heist.
Location: Interior (INT) – High-Security Bank Vault
Characters: Morgan (30s, master thief), Jordan (40s, security expert)
Set the Scene: The dimly lit, heavily guarded vault of a high-security bank. Morgan, dressed in black and carrying high-tech gear, meets Jordan, who is nervously checking surveillance monitors.
Prompt: Jordan reveals that the vault's security system is about to undergo a major upgrade in 24 hours, making it impenetrable. They must pull off the heist tonight or lose the opportunity forever. Just as they begin, they discover an unexpected obstacle. What is the new challenge they face, and how do they plan to overcome it? Write a scene that highlights the tension and high stakes of their heist attempt.
